I don’t remember much from my childhood but I do remember this —dangling from a hotel balcony, three flights up. It’s one of my first memories....
Quirk & Co
Quirk and Co is a store which tames the wilds so you can bring a little of the natural world into your home.
Step off Victoria Street in North Melbourne into an unexpected menagerie. Elegant fish puzzles and gorillas of polished wood with movable limbs are toys too good for kids. There's a piggy bank cast from a real piglet and parrot drawings embellished with frilled collars made of recycled maps and envelopes. Greenery protrudes from vintage pots, dinosaurs and glass orbs.
Kirk Ireland and Nick Johns brought extensive design experience with them when they opened the store in 2010. The thoughtful product range is an eclectic mix of international, local and vintage collectables. With a focus on art and function, John's witty Earth and Moon wall and light hangings brilliantly compliment Ireland's quality crafted bags, scarves and cushions.
The store's shelving rests on wire cages but consistent with the reverence for nature at Quirk and Co, the animals have been set free to take centre stage. The cages are occupied with mountainscapes of quartz. But, some 'lucky rocks' can be found on the shelves and can be taken home for indoor or outdoor use. You can choose from 'very old' or 'quite old' rocks.
With a distinctive aesthetic, a selection of quality items and excellent service, Quirk and Co. is a fine example of the highly individual and dynamic retail scene emerging from the North Melbourne community.
Visit soon and add a little quirk to your life.
